Ink-Safe™ biochemistry

Regular skincare isn’t built for ink.

Most general skincare is created for untattooed skin and is designed to penetrate deeply, accelerate turnover or target pigmentation. These approaches can work well for beauty purposes, but over time they can stress the dermis, blur ink or dull its vibrancy.

Many premium skincare products contain ingredients that are not Ink-Safe™, including the following.

  • Strong resurfacing acids (AHAs, BHAs)

    Known to thin the epidermis and accelerate turnover, which may dull or blur tattoo clarity.

  • High-strength retinoids

    Known to increase cell turnover and irritation, potentially disturbing pigment stability.

  • Bleaching and lightening agents

    Known to alter natural pigmentation, which can obscure or mute tattoo colour.

  • Harsh clinical peels and penetration enhancers

    Designed to reach the dermis, the very layer where tattoo ink is embedded.

  • Irritating essential oils and fragrances

    Known to trigger inflammation or photosensitivity.

  • Abrasive scrubs

    Known to erode surface texture and diminish optical clarity.

These ingredients may work for faces or anti-ageing, but they are not designed for skin that carries ink.

Stage 01 · Prepare

PRIMETattoo Preparation Serum

Conditions the skin before tattooing to help strengthen barrier integrity, optimise hydration and support microbiome balance for improved ink acceptance.

PRIME combines barrier-reinforcing ceramides, microbiome-balancing oligosaccharides and cell-protective ectoin to prepare the skin ahead of tattooing. This helps create a smoother, more resilient surface that supports precise ink placement.

Stage 02 · Recover

LOCKTattoo Ink Grip and Recovery Complex

Cares for newly tattooed skin through the 14 days of healing, helping keep it hydrated, comfortable and supported while the ink settles.

LOCK combines Centella triterpenes, soothing bisabolol and nourishing squalane to comfort the skin, calm the look of redness and replenish lost lipids. A natural ferment and botanical extracts help condition the skin and support its barrier while it heals.

Stage 03 · Protect

SHIELDTattoo Fade and Blur Defence Cream (SPF15)

Provides daily protection against UV, blue light and pollution, helping slow pigment fade, blurring and photo-ageing.

SHIELD uses advanced organic UV filters (BEMT, MBBT and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate) combined with antioxidants such as resveratrol, tocopherol and ectoin. These are known to scatter and absorb UV and visible light, neutralise free radicals and reinforce the skin barrier to help preserve tattoo clarity over time. SHIELD is for everyday exposure on healed tattoos. For long days outdoors, use SPF50+.

Stage 04 · Restore

LUMETattoo Restoration Emulsion

Refreshes the look of older or faded tattoos by resurfacing dull skin, bringing back the look of clarity and brightness.

LUME uses PHAs, bakuchiol and nutrient-rich oils that are known to refine epidermal texture, reduce dullness and support suppleness without disturbing pigment. Optical enhancers and antioxidants help bring back the look of definition and brightness in older tattoos.
